Smallpeople - big sounds. That´s where the likable chaps Julius Steinhoff and Just von Ahlefeld left us with "Salty Days": one of 2012s finest long-players and a confirmation to the fact that deep house´s promises can still be fulfilled. Their joint efforts also make In The Jungle EP a pleasant trip into the realms of a sound that isn´t all about chord stereotypes - even for misanthropic grumblers like the author of these lines. "Nofretete" opens this reign of spellbinding tracks with hints of acid house, paradisiac breakdowns and finally heavenly salvation. "Ninja Restaurant" and "In The Jungle" are its tougher siblings between high spirit metaphysical rave signals and Windy City rhythm box kung-fu plus hidden locked grooves.< Hypno house for the young and the young at heart.
Instead of the club bangers one might expect from Jay Daniel’s prior work, the Detroit native’s debut full-length is a graceful experiment with traditional African rhythmic forms and their current manifestations in juke and footwork. Bandcamp Album of the Day Dec 8, 2016
